  Tips: What Corporate Donors Really Need

What your Corporate Donor Really Needs to hear from you, whether in your visit together or in a letter:

  1. Will this provide me a way to empty my warehouse of slow, excess, or problematic inventory?
    It will do that as well as end the carrying costs, insurance, handling, and possible repackaging costs, warehouse space crowding, as well as clearing up the accounting.

  2. Will this program move the donated product outside of my primary marketing and sales territory? The program carefully develops buyers outside of the sales territory of the Donor, and can develop new markets and buyers in new regions or foreign countries.

  3. How soon can you take this inventory Donation?
    Have you ever had a corporation ask you how fast you could take a Donation? We work fairly fast and will confirm a specific schedule once we know the details about and any restrictions for the inventory.

  4. Will you be using this inventory in your mission or selling it for cash?
    This does indeed impact a company's tax treatment of the donation, and you must clearly state that the product will be sold for cash to fund the critical operations of your organization.

In most situations, the Donor Corporations are much more interested in resolving the practical issues. The tax benefits of this program are only an extra benefit if it happens to work out.

In most cases, you will receive much more cash value from the donated inventories than you would from requesting only a cash contribution.
